Tonight the hubs heads out for DC once again. This time the munchkin and I will be going to visit. We’re heading down on Friday and coming back Sunday. I’m not so thrilled about not going to church on Easter (yes, we are those people that only go to church on holidays…I don’t like this, but it’s just the way it is until we agree on a denomination), but at least we’ll be spending time together as a family. I’m praying that the weather will be nice so that we can have a picnic at one of the memorial parks. I’ve got the munchkin’s Easter basket goodies all ready to go, and I plan on dying a half dozen eggs that she can hunt.
While we’re on the topic of Easter egg hunts…what is it about mean-ass kids and hunting fucking plastic eggs? The hubs’ work had an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, and the first kids to go were 3 and under. We only had about 30 seconds to hunt before the big kids broke out of their cage. This wasn’t the plan, but those kids couldn’t contain themselves any longer. I was coaxing my munchkin to an egg, and she was only a foot away when these two brats ran up and grabbed the egg. I gave them my dirtiest look, and let me tell you, I hope their stupid mothers saw. Just a word of advice…please teach your children that it is NOT polite to steal Easter eggs from babies.
Saturday I head to The Container Store in Arlington, VA. I am SO excited!!! I’ve never been but have perused through their website several times eyeing things I want. There is just something about organizational items that gets my blood pumpin’. Bacon keeper, here I come!
I will end with a poem from Office Haiku: Poems Inspired by the Daily Grind by James Rogauskas:
Late afternoon cup –
The coffee is cold and stale.
Drink it anyway.

House of Flying Body Fluids
I got halfway to work when the hubs called to tell me that Mary threw up big time. She hadn't done it since Saturday night, but she was pretty cranky most of yesterday and didn't each much. She was fine when I left for work, but apparently she wasn't feeling good. Anway, hubs started feeling sick this morning, too, so that means I'm now working from home.
As you can see, the ham has taken over my kitchen utensil junk drawer, so I've had to do a little rearranging. She's so worth the trouble. ;)
So I've decided that I'm sick of "hiding." I'm sick of having to correct names and such on this blog. It's a pain in my big ass, and I'm done, so from now on Mary is no longer Mary, and Dick is no longer Dick. I, therefore, am no longer Jane.
If someone comes across this blog because they decide to Google everyone in mother fucking creation, then so-be-it. I'll do what I can without driving myself mad to still somewhat disguise our names...J, K, and A. Or maybe I won't even do that. I will do my best not to use my own name since it's not common, and those that do have it don't spell it the way I do. Now I'm just thinking out loud.

"It's a letter confirming your reservation at the nut house."
According to my new therapist, I have Adjustment Disorder. I really don't feel like going into exactly what that is, so click the link if you're interested.
At least it ain't schizophrenia.
And in more news, Dick and I celebrated our three-year anniversary last Wednesday, the 8th. I had every intention of blogging about it, but we've been going non-stop. I came home from work early because he was supposed to go to physical therapy and then to work, but he was drinking a beer instead. He had taken the night off over a month ago and canceled his PT! I was completely surprised. He took me out to eat at Cavallino Nero (AWESOME Italian joint) and then we had dessert at Simply Fondue. It was so nice. Early Saturday morning we drove up to the Pocono Mountains and spent the night. We had such a good time, and I'll try to blog more about it when I get the pics off my camera.
For now, this crazy has to get some sleep.

Limax maximus
Thanks for the feedback on the new layout. I wish I could say it was my creative genius, but alas, I downloaded it and tweaked it to my own. I yearn for the day that I have time to sit down and learn Photoshop.

And let me tell you, these slugs ain't small. They're like 4-5 inches each. When I first glanced out the window while they were connected like this, they looked like a snake.
I need sleeeeeep.
Dick is now home. After waiting two days in Jacksonville for the weather in Mobile, AL, to clear up, they decided to release the hubs and the other guys. Air Station New Orleans was fully functional as of yesterday, so there was no need for all the extra Coasties to go to Mobile. I'm glad. During Katrina in New Orleans, those ghetto m-effers shot at the helicopters trying to help them, and I didn't want the hubs anywhere near that God-forsaken city. So needless to say, he spent the last 2 1/2 days shopping, eating, and going to the beach...sounds like the weekend I wanted. =)
So this is what we decided to go with...
She really likes it and constantly bangs on the tray. So far, so good.
Ok, so I need a little more advice. For those of you that use/used diaper pails...what did you do when baby's poo really started to stink and that plastic contraption that you once thought was spectacular now fails to hold in all of the stank? We empty it regularly, by the way.
And now, a lesson in nature...
At first glance, it looks as though these Great Grey Slugs are doin' the dirty, but in fact, they are courting. It involves licking each other. Sounds more like foreplay to me. Click on the link to see pics of them mating. It is some bizarre shit.
I need sleeeeeep.

Thank you, Gustav
Our Labor Day Weekend was officially ruined last night. I can deal with not getting to go to Ocean City. It's nice just staying home and getting to spend some time with the hubs since we're on opposite schedules during the week. Anyway, last night I went upstairs to put Mary down and take a shower, and when I got done, we were going to play the Wii. I was drying off and he came upstairs with this look on his face. Honestly, his eyes looked a little glazed over like he was upset. His fucking work just called him, and he has to get on a C-130 at 9:30 this morning to go to Jacksonville, FL, for this damn hurricane. They were originally sending down one helicopter with a crew, but they recalled last night and decided that they needed 24 more people with Flight Mechanic qualifications. He'll be in Jacksonville until at least Thursday. He has no idea what he'll be doing at this point. He kinda wants to do some rescues, but I want him to stay put. I can't tell y'all how much this last minute shit drives me crazy. I mean, a 12-hour notice, seriously?
We had plans to go to dinner with the neighbors tonight at the Crab Trap, but I can't take Mary by myself. It'll be too much of an ordeal, and I'll probably never get my food eaten. Luckily they've got more people than us going, so it won't be a big deal when I back out.
He's totally bummed. His whole weekend is ruined.
When Katrina hit in August '05, it was HELL for Air Station Houston. Dick was going in to work at 2:00 and not getting off until about 6:00am, and this lasted for a few weeks. Gustav is already worse than Katrina, and I just pray to God that hubs doesn't get stuck down there with all that mess.
It wasn't quite as bad with Rita that September, but he did have to stay back on Ready Crew, which meant taking the helicopters to Corpus Christi while I had to evacuate because we lived closer to the coast than my parents did. That effing blew because they had to fly back in with the hurricane. They weren't flying with the eye, but they were in the outer bands. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time...especially since our wedding was in less than a month.
I totally married into this, and it blows. I know it's his job, but it still sucks, and I can still complain about it.

Growing up
What a week.
My baby sister started college on Monday. Ho-ly smokes. And to top it off, she turns 18 tomorrow. I remember when she was born, changing her diapers, spanking her ass, raising her...all just so she could grow up. Kinda makes me sad.
Do you remember the things you were doing at 18? I sure do. God help me. Thank goodness she's not wild in the ways I was. She just likes to poke holes all over her face.
Jim, my brother, started school on Monday, too. He's a Junior this year (though he may still be behind some). He officially gets his license in October (he turned 16 in June, but kids now have to obtain a permit for 6 months) and is already looking for jobs. My baby brudda is growing up, too. Bleh. Too much growin' up this week.
I've been sooo excited about our Labor Day weekend plans. We were invited to go to this AWESOME beach house in Ocean City that has a hot tub on the top floor that overlooks the city. Dick, however, "forgot." He told one of his coworkers that we'd watch his 8-month-old boxer. I was initially told that it would be one night. On Sunday they brought Samson by to meet our mutts, and I asked the guy's wife how long. She says, "It'll be around 6:00 Friday night, and I'm leaving DC around 4:00 Monday night." Oh, the whole fucking weekend. So much for Ocean City.
And what is it about men that they find it necessary to leave out HUGE portions of stories, explanations, etc.? And does anyone else's hubs exaggerate as much as mine? I feel like I constantly have to say, "Babe, don't exaggerate." Drives me nuts.
So Mary has a diaper rash. Let me tell you, there is not a diaper changing that goes by that I don't put something on her...powder or cream. She's only ever had very minor rashes that go away in a day. This one happened overnight and was so bad on the first day (Sunday) that she actually bled. I felt so bad. I'm telling y'all, that rash was NOT there when I put her to bed on Saturday night. She would get really antsy and upset when we changed her. I ended up leaving her diaper off for over an hour (luckily she only peed once, and it was on the carpet...she learned that from the dogs). You could see part of the rash kinda crust up. God, I feel so bad just talking about it. Anyway, it didn't get better as fast as I expected, but it's definitely healing. I'm just waiting on the dr to call me back about any kind of extra-protective cream we can use.
Ok, must work.

A little sadness
Tonight Mary is sleeping in the co-sleeper for the first time since she was a week old. I felt my heart breaking as I rocked her to sleep.
Some of this shit is just so hard.
I always said that I'd never have her sleep in my bed simply for safety reasons, but we did it because she was just not sleeping at all in the co-sleeper. And now I'm addicted to her being next to me.
And now she's not. And I'm sad.
Did I mention that MIL took at sleeping pill at 2:00AM yesterday so that when I went to wake her when I was leaving for work, I had to call her name several times? By the end of the day, she was completely wiped out. I told hubs about it, and he said, "She's insane." Noted.
I called on my way home today, and I heard Mary in the background...crying hysterically. MIL told me that she was trying to lay Mary down for a nap and that Mary was truly very tired and trying to fall asleep. Never has Mary cried like that when I've tried to put her down for a nap. My nerves were on edge.
But honestly, it really is nice to have some help. Both my manager and boss are on vacay this week, and I can't imagine having Mary at work all day without my manager there. And it doesn't hurt that MIL has been cookin', too. =)
Dick comes back late next Tuesday (yay!!). I'm so ready for him to be here. It's gone by fast, but this week seems to be draggin' ass. I'm SURE it can't be because I have a spa appointment on Friday.
